now this guy`s hungry really hungry -------------------- Yep. That's the rub. We have millions of kids all across America who are not getting enough to eat, or who are not getting anything even remotely approximating a balanced diet, because of economic circumstances. We have even more millions of kids all across the globe for which the same thing is true, and yet more millions who are downright starving, due to famine, drought and the like. For those who have a bit of money to donate to such causes, it's a choice between taking care of your own, in some demonstrable need, or taking care of others, who are oftentimes in even greater need. And that can be a tough choice - there's no right or wrong answer - there are deserving, hard-working organizations dedicated to combatting both domestic and international hunger - and both genres are worth considering. For those who have more than a bit of money to donate to such causes, the choice is easier, becauuse they can afford to help a bit on both fronts. The nice thing about food banking is that you can donate in-kind (boxed and canned and freeze-dried goods and the like) from your pantries - during municipal or regional food drives (such as those that many cities see around Thanksgiving and Christmas) - without costing you more than excess inventory in your cupboard that (a) has been sitting there for a while and (b) is still safe to donate and consume. And, of course, volunteering time at a neighborhood food pantry or regional food bank, or organizing an office-wide or church or fraternal organization sortie as a Volunteer Day, is another great way of helping on the domestic front without detracting from the desire of some folks to help on the international front as well. There's room for both kinds of philanthropy in this case; domestic and international; enough to satisfy a broad range of motivations and desire to help.

It's a tragic disgrace that governments the world over can find the money to fund a war, whilst people the world over are homeless and starving.
