Minimum wage here is about $13 an hour. What costs the money is child care, housing, food, rising utilities etc.. Some just work to keep "things going" no meals out, no treats. Nothing. Nothing to save.
Is that a life ? Is that what you bust your gut at 60 + plus hours for week in, week out for ?

PiL
Some sort of living wage or allowance, to pay what you have to pay. Plus a little over to save or take the family out. It could be set nationally as the bare minimum everyone should be living on. Most people dont mind working hard if they can see they are getting somewhere. What is the point of working hard, if you are not moving up the ladder a little ?

David Korten a fellow American of yours, had some good ideas about sorting this problem out.

Dom, I can understand where you are coming from for the most part, but not all can afford to pay a living wage until they can get their feet under them...
I've bookmarked the article

Of course I do. Duh. But don't bitch about her being rich while you're not. Whether she worked for her month or inherited it, she has a point. Anyone can be a millionaire . . . if you're willing to do the work.

And that's the problem in America and why Mexicans will come work here.

Many couples make a choice to sacrifice "things" so one parent can stay home and not have to pay child care because it costs one income anyway.

Even job allowance is a pain in the butt. I'd like to see the minimum wage increased.

You assume i am not comfortable in my own right. You are wrong. I just have some empathy for others who face a life of drudgery and financial woes. Seems, that you could do do with a bit. Empathy that is.

And with increased wages comes cost of living wages, increases in manufactured products and all goods for that matter.
Fact of the matter is that wages need to stabilize and profits need to shrink, or costs of goods needs to shrink
