We will never get NAFTA re-written. I mean it helped Mexico and Canada but it did nothing for America. All their business's left because it is cheaper to run the business in some other country than it is here.
What does that tell you? It isn't necessarily the wage the American people are asking for. I mean you have to give them enough to support a family. Right now not even minimum wage does that. Hell, you couldn't support a family on the wage I am making right now and that's about $4 above the minimum wage here. (Ok, 3 something to be exact) Minimum wage is not the same in every state, or even county within the state.
There are less regulations to run your business in Mexico (not necessarily Canada, they seem to have more regulation), the business is not taxed to death in other countries (unless I was misinformed of canada on that). They are both done here.
As much as everyone hates it, tax breaks does bring in business. I agree greed has become the main thing with corporations lately. You aren't going to change that with more regulations and taxes. You will only drive them away.
If you were Mexico who is profitting from NAFTA would you sign to change it? Let's face it, congress and Clinton didn't do the country any favors with that one.
Dont' get me wrong, I liked Clinton. He was one of the best presidents we had, sure he had his faults, they all do. What other president provided us with such great comic relief for years to come? You can't mention Clintons name without a monica or under the desk joke coming up.
