"The video is heartfelt and sobering. It really resonated with me...."
Salaams Kalitay,
I trust you are well and the New Year brings you more joy than ever.
What stood out (and this also answers Moxie's post as well) is the fact that the man states if it wasn't for his faith in Allah then he would have considered suicide a long time ago. His faith motivates him and yes he may have his highs and lows but overall he hasn't let himself become mentally ill.
Nowadays the focus is more and more on mental health... even the royals are highlighting this... Why all of a sudden? Has faith in general decreased and is this the reason why mental health and mental illness is on the rise? Or was it all hidden?
What I cannot comprehend and I may never do is the fact people commit suicide over the silliest reason. Yet those dealing with major illnesses and problems survive. Are they mentally strong? Is it all in the brain? Or does faith have a part to play?
Take care my dear brother.

He is doing well so far, Mox but as a mother the worry never ends especially after his challenging start. Each and every milestone he meets brings peace in my heart. Him being alive is one miracle to me. Currently mastered the art of laughter. What else do I want.

Hi everyone.
What's the religious take on coronavirus then?... Lesson?... Punishment?
Hope everyone is okay.

Hi everyone. What's the religious take on coronavirus then?... Lesson?... Punishment? Hope everyone is okay. I just feel blessed to be alive and well at this point. I feel sad for those whose horrible stories are in the news daily. Stay safe and healthy, ISA. 🙂

First of all to say I hope everyone is keeping well in these strange and harrowing times. I think it's safe to say that we're all being affected either by the virus itself or by the measures which are being implemented to contain it.
ISA, I would say that naturally the religious response is as varied as the religions themselves.
To respond to your question directly, most of the voices I've heard from within the Muslim community are viewing the harm and disruption caused by the virus as a prime example of the oft-repeated fragility of worldly life: that whatever we own or posses in this world, and whatever we attain, can never be secure and will always be lost, whether sooner or later. This contrasts with love of God, our only true source of safety, whereby what we put forward in His way are treasures of the heart, eternal treasures which will never be lost or forgotten.
I think that the "religious" questions here must be supplemented with some more mundane questions which we all need to be asking, questions such as:
*Did the virus originate from bat soup in China or did it originate in a biological weapons lab?
*If the latter, then which state (or non-state) actors were responsible, and why?
*Aside from the origin of the virus, might the methods we're using to combat it ultimately cause more damage than the virus itself?
*For example, what will be the repercussions of a major global recession greater than that caused by the Wall Street Crash of 1929?

To add to the list some conspiracy theories regarding 5G Towers, forced vaccinations, Bill Gates, Microchipping, Cashless society i.e. cryptocurrency.
Why is the West mostly affected? Is it done to damage its economy? Oh and don't get me started on Boris and Trump.

"With expertise in many fields, from medicine and astronomy to mathematics and theology, Ibn Sina was a Muslim polymath and the father of early modern medicine. Also known as Avicenna in the West, he was a great scientific mind who played a groundbreaking role in curbing the most-feared contagions a thousand years ago. At a time when the modern world is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, the first step the World Health Organisation (WHO) took towards flattening the curve of coronavirus positive infections was to insist on deploying the method of quarantine, which was invented by Ibn Sina to tackle the outbursts of human-to-human transmission of disease. In his masterpiece, ‘The Canon of Medicine’, which was published in 1025, Ibn Sina argued that a 40-day period of quarantine was essential to weaken the spread of contagious infections." www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.trtworld.com/magazine/how-ibn-sina-s-work-became-a-guiding-light-for-scientists-facing-contagions-35440/amp

Hi everyone. What's the religious take on coronavirus then?... Lesson?... Punishment? Hope everyone is okay. I trust everyone is okay especially those living in the hotspot regions or are vulnerable and are at high risk. To answer your question then it depends how one interprets this though Muslims believe that plagues are testing times and a way to reflect their temporary lives on this planet. Some shall view this as a punishment for the corruption caused by mankind. During lockdown (and God knows when it shall end) I am using this period for family time and for reflection purposes. Am I ready to meet my Lord now? Have I been a good citizen? How can I change my lifestyle?

Hi star! Hope you are all doing well. How are the little ones doing? 🙂 Stay healthy and safe. Hi Moxie, Like most parents, I am home schooling my eldest child which in itself is a challenge. My youngest is meeting the milestones and is quite the attention seeker. I feel blessed but during these difficult times my worry for their health has grown. I hope you are your family are coping well with the lockdown. The death rate is sky high in the US. I hope this virus ends soon. Stay safe.

I know of some believers that have grown closer to God on a spiritual level due to this corona virus.
