Girl in with the Dragon Tattoo....The new version. I approached this with a bit of trepidation having seen the previous trilogy by the late, lamented Stieg Larsson.... and loved Noomi Rapace in the role of Lisbeth Salander. I did think that Hollywood would ruin it with too much gloss However I was wrong, the characters are amply portrayed and true to the narrative. Rooney Mara in comparison is very good and Daniel Craig is better than in the original. The great cinematography which made the oirginal so intriguing has been adequately replicated. ...and on the plus side, you don't miss anything which may have been lost in subtitles. The story is very strong, of course...its a good, if violent thriller. Verdict: Very Good Well worth watching.

I've not seen the movie highlighted above but it sounds interesting, Spell. Have you seen House of Flying Daggers? I think that movie is quite good but was wondering what others thought of it.

I think so. Is that the one where they are running up walls and doing somersaults? There is a name for the genre but Im not sure what it is. Saw the latest intstallment of "Underworld" on Friday. There is a lot of running about, shooting... and bits of people everywhere. Its quite stylish but reminds me of that old play station game "Doom" where its dark and you are meeting a monster around every corner Not my cup of tea, Im afraid...but my lad would probably enjoy it.

Action and romance? Yeh, I think it's that movie...I quite liked it though.

It is a fine film starlight, one where the cinematography was (IMO) beyond reproach.
Hi Spellbound, I do not know what the genre is called, might it be something like 'Hong Kong action cinema', where the appearance of flying whilst fighting and running through the air etc. is achieved by what's known as "Wire Fu", which is itself an amalgamation of "wire work" and "kung fu".
Go well.

Yes thanks Royston I though it had a name. I have seen "house of flying daggers" and it takes you a bit by surprise at first. Winters Bone This is a distubing tale of lawless Ozark mountain folk. 17 year old Ree is left to look after her younger brother and sister and mentally ill mother in a dilapidated shack. Her dad had put the house up for bail (there is some sort of drug manufacturing going on in the community) but fails to make his court date so she goes looking for him. She meets a strange mix of people I think it gives an intelligent observation of the relationships of people and their lives.....Its a bleak kind of thriller The main character is strong and resilient in the face of adversity.... and you find yourself admiring her. I like intelligent and inciteful films....and I liked this one. I thought it was good,. My teenagers hated it though

Colombiana is the latest movie I've seen. I do like the plot but I don't understand how Cattleya (Zoe Saldana) can get away with being a serial assassin. Beside I like a girl that can kick some serious arse.

Anorexic? Yeah, she did look scary to me but I did like her in action. The way she escaped jail and killed the baddie in jail was quite adventurous.

Snow White and the Huntsman Its the usual story of Snow White but this is the best one I have seen. Its magical and the special effects are really good. It has an ancient almost Nordic feel. The Dwarves are more like something from Lord of the rings, there is a troll, fairies and magical beasts. Good cast too.

It's a movie Marco has recommended me to go out and see, Spell saying I would love it. I wish I can find time to do so unless they show it on Sky Box Office.

Paul it was ok - nothing close to as funny as I thought it would be. downgrade to some funny parts and not a constant laughter where I would have to rewind a few times cause I'm missing what was being said.

Just watched Les Miserables at the cinema... Its pretty good...brave attempt by actors, who are not always the best singers but add that extra bit of emotion to the emotional bits. The thing that hold it all together in the stage play.... is the relationship between Javert and Valjean. I didn't think that was strong enough in the film.....Russel Crowe's performance wasn't that good. but...Well worth a watch if you like musicals. Take some tissues.

Anna Karenina......Costumes are marvellous and its wonderfully glamorous. basic love story though.....and far too fussy for my tastes. I have no desire to watch it again or read Tolstoy's book. Skyfall.........Action packed, lots of explosions and the story is better than the normal James Bond presentations. Quite gritty and a little sad. Not sure Craig has the sexual charm that other Bonds have had......but as a running about action hero he is impeccable. The actual house "Skyfall" reminded me a bit of Hound of the Baskervilles on a shaky 1940s film set....they blew it to smithereens as you may expect. Not the normal Monte Carlo glamour......but hugely enjoyable non-the-less.....

Non Stop...Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, and the actress that plays Lady Mary on 'Downton Abbey.' Very good! Suspenseful.
