The ten-year anniversary of 9/11 is coming up a week from this Sunday. Wherever you are and if you can, stop for a moment and remember.

Working in a nursing home, you get used to the comings and goings, but in April it was my mother that left for better places. And no skin is thick enough to shield the feelings when that happens. We spent her last 36 hours talking to her, reading some of her favorite poems and bible verses, and held her hand as she crossed the bridge. It's as profound a feeling as I've had in my life; we were proud of how peaceful she was during that time. And for the bird that sat in the tree outside her window for the last hour of her life, thank you for your company. We figured you had to be the that would take her the rest of the way home. When my day comes, I'll be looking for that bird ..... although I wonder if it will have horns instead of a halo, and a pitchfork under it's cape. RIP Mom .... we did the best we could.

sgtjer, I'm sorry for your loss. Your mother was very lucky to have you with her at the end.

Good morning, fellow mourners .... and thanx for the comments. It's good that the lives we once shared still live on in our memories, it's as close to immortality as any of us are likely to get.
I'll add a quick remembrance of my high school chum, Johnny Cameron, who is also listed on the black wall, Vietnam 1966. Too many kids die young in these wars of geopolitics .....
