Who watches this? I've seen commercials and heard others rant and rave about this show. It looks so pathetic to me.
The snippets look awfully boring.

Downtown abbey is an excellent, fly on the wall, warts and all documentary series about an average family in contemporary Britain.

Lots of folk I know love the show, I've never been able to get into it.

British Sitcom is enjoyable. I like Only Fools and Horses the best. If Downtown Abbey is good as that, I'll give it a shot.

I love Downton Abbey but I am a hardcore fan of British period pieces.
My husband used to roll his eyes at my obsession but since he gave Downton Abbey a try, he has gotten into a lot of other British shows.

I missed most of the last series but Maggie Smith is always worth a watch. I like those big house communities and like to imagine myself as part of the set-up. I reckon I would have made a great scullery maid

I missed most of the last series but Maggie Smith is always worth a watch. I like those big house communities and like to imagine myself as part of the set-up. I reckon I would have made a great scullery maid My mother worked in those big houses in the twenties, she would love to tell us tales of how the posh and well off lived. Ask her what she did in her younger days and she would tell you she worked in service, that is what is it was called in those days. I doubt there was much work for young women in those days, just the big house jobs. There where a few stately homes in our area, times have changed, the lands are all sold off, and most of the big stately houses knocked down, or turned into old people's homes, with the odd one now being an hotel and restaurants.
