Wal-Mart threatens to can new DC stores if living-wage bill succeeds
Only 24 hours before a decisive vote on Washington's living-wage proposal, Wal-Mart has upended the Monopoly board and stamped its feet. It's told D.C. council that if the bill passes, it'll pull the plug on three new Wal-Mart stores planned for the city. The retail giant also said the living-wage measure, which would force Wal-Mart to pay its employees no less than $12.50 an hour as opposed to the city's minimum wage of $8.25, would jeopardize another three stores currently under construction. Regional general manager for Wal-Mart Alex Barron wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post that the proposed wage increase would "challenge the fiscal health of our planned D.C. stores."

No company should be forced to pay a so called "living wage".....Their obligation to their stockholders is to procure goods and services at the lowest cost possible, wages included
