Hello ladies and gentlemen. I am interested in your views on the do's and dont's of the humble dishcloth. For instance do you soak your dishcloths in bleach daily and how long for ? Do you soak your dishcloth in bleach at all and why not ? Do you in fact own a dishcloth ? Any interesting tips, facts and statistics would be most helpful and interesting. Thankyou. Have a nice day y'all.

Any particular reason,Spell ? They do say the microwave is just as effective. Pureness eh. Sounds divine. Deary me.Typical male eh. I suppose that is slighter better than using your dishcloths for cleaning out his extremely oily motorcycle head cam out in your front room eh ?. Thank you for your delightful contribution, Spellbound.

Let me guess,Starlight. You use paper kitchen roll. Right. Are you not concerned about the environmental impact on the planet of long term paper kitchen towel usage ?

I stack the dishes on a clean surface for evaporation to take place. They dry within an hour's time. I prefer using less material (dishcloth or tissue paper) to dry the dishes with - only if necessary. There is that saying that the average kitchen dishcloth can contain up to and including 4 billion living germs.

A very rare, turn of the century (circa 1897) knitted petal design dishcloth in Etruscan blue. *Also note the inner intricate abstract petal design*. Fabulous!

I soak, put them in the boil wash....dry and drawer. They'll be no E Coli on my watch. I'm scarred for life because my mother used to use an old pair of my dads y fronts....Why oh why? they are only 15 pence. The shame A good tip is to put a few drops of lavender oil on before wiping the surfaces...Its antiseptic and makes your kitchen smell lovely

Excellent. I do so hate to see dishcloth abuse. I should think not too. With your clearly evident superscrupulous hygienic standards. Oh dear! I hope you bleached them first. Simply dreadful. Thankyou very much for your tip.

Dear Spellbound, Are you a fan of these new fandangled designed dishcloths recently out. They seem a little minimalist and lacking in character. They maybe very functional, efficient and cheap. But what do you think ?

Being a bit of a science buff I'm very enthusiastic about smart fibers.
They can micro-encapsulate disinfectant and slow release onto your surfaces. They can also have great cleaning potential....without the vigorous scrubbing of the standard models.
As for the styling, I'm not a fan of minimalism or postmodernism....and would choose something in a brighter more complementary hue.

Yes, but how do durable are they ? I still have dishcloths passed down from my great, great, great, great, great, grandmother. A little faded, but useable nonetheless. I dont however use them and they are kept in our display cabinet.
