Ernest Borgnine, the beefy screen star known for blustery, often villainous roles, but who won the best-actor Oscar for playing against type as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.
His longtime spokesman, Harry Flynn, told The Associated Press that Borgnine died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife and children at his side.
Borgnine, who endeared himself to a generation of Baby Boomers with the 1960s TV comedy "McHale's Navy," first attracted notice in the early 1950s in villain roles, notably as the vicious Fatso Judson, who beat Frank Sinatra to death in "From Here to Eternity."todayentertainment.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/07/08/12628911-oscar-winning-film-star-ernest-borgnine-dies?lite

Yeah I just read about his death. Well, he was 95 so he had a long run. I'll always remember him in McHale's Navy.

They say, only the good die young, well Ernest must have done agood job of playing a baddie, he lived to be 95 years old. He might not have been the best looking of actor's, be he was certainly one of the best. R.I.P. Ernest.

Great actors like these are not always in lead roles even though he was in his long career. It is well known that even supporting actors can outshine leading actors. Good bye Ernest.

Commiserations to his family.
I liked Ernest (it's important). Kirk Douglas (how old is he now?) is still going strong; eh? By the by, one summer holiday - during my college days - I saw Burt Lancaster and Kurt, or was it Charlton Heston (I forget), greet each other with most affectionate hugs. Happy days. Burt and Co. came across as old-school class acts.
Go well.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the film but it was about a plane that crashed in the desert. Thats the only thing I can remember him in really..... but thought it was rather good at the time. Bless him...Safe Journey Ernest.
