Secret Santa saves Christmas for Sandy victims
Even though she has a three-year-old, Janice Kennedy had no interest in celebrating Christmas this year. That was her feeling after Superstorm Sandy destroyed her home.
"It's just -- how am I going to do that? I don't have anything left," Janice says of how she felt after the storm struck.
She hated that they were even selling Christmas trees in her neighborhood. That's just how down some people are on Staten Island, N.Y., and neighboring New Jersey, where Sandy hit hardest.
Which is exactly why Secret Santa is here.
His face and his real name can't be revealed. All we can say is that he's a wealthy businessman from Missouri who every December goes to the cities and towns in America he thinks need him most.
He then gives away $100 bills -- about $100,000 worth -- all to random strangers he finds in thrift stores, laundromats and soup kitchens.

I agree with the purpose of the thread. Too much focus is given on the bad news that we forget the good news. But for a damn second I thought the good news was entering heaven. ;D

25 Inspiring Stories to Make You Smile
1.Today, my son turned 7 and I turned 23. Yes, I had him on the day I turned 16. The choices I made when I was a teenager were foolish, and sometimes I get worried I’m bringing my son up wrong. But today I took him to the park to celebrate our birthdays. He played for hours with a girl who has burn scars that cover most of her face. When my son took a break to eat, he pointed to her and said, “She’s so pretty and cool!” Which left me thinking, “I must be doing something right as a mom.” MMT
2. Today at 1AM, my grandma, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, got up, got into my dad’s car and drove off. We contacted the police. But before the police could find her, two college kids pulled into our driveway with my grandma. One was driving my dad’s car and the other was following in their car. They said they overheard her crying about being lost at an empty gas station 10 miles away. My grandma couldn’t remember our address, but gave the kids her first and last name. They looked her up online, found our address, and drove her home. MMT
3. Today, my 8-year-old son hugged me and said, “You are the best mom in the whole entire world!” I smiled and sarcastically replied, “How do you know that? You haven’t met every mom in the whole entire world.” My son squeezed me tighter and said, “Yes I have. You are my world.” MMT
4. Today, my dad turned 91. He barely has enough strength to speak. But every time my mom (she’s 84) walks into the room to check on him, he says, “Hello beautiful.” MMT

At Abington hospital, a bond born in crisis
Mark Harris works the grill in the cafeteria at Abington Memorial Hospital.
Jack Lawlor's wife was dying. He was at the hospital day after day, hoping she'd get better, and every day he'd go into the cafeteria for a steak sandwich.
Mark knows all the regulars, the doctors and nurses. He noticed Jack after a few days in line and concluded that he was visiting a sick relative. Mark tried to be cheerful to him in line, and do what he could - give him extra steak on his sandwich.
Jack was not too lost in grief to notice how hard Mark was working at the grill, hustling, juggling many orders at once, always being cheerful to him - and very generous with the steak.
Mark is a black man, raised in Philadelphia in a series of foster homes, now 42. Jack is a white man, 80, from Hatboro, many years ago the retail advertising manager for this very newspaper.
One day, after lunch, Jack was waiting outside the cafeteria for the elevator back to intensive care. Mark walked by, stopped, asked Jack why he was at Abington.

Hero dog helps pull girl from icy river
Rocky's been a fictional hero for decades, but in Edmonton, Alberta, today there's a hero named Rocky who is definitely real -- only he's 8 years old and has four legs.
This Rocky, a Labrador retriever-husky mix, is being hailed for pulling a 9-year-old girl from an icy river on Easter Sunday. His owner, Adam Shaw, 27, is getting similar praise.
"If that man and dog weren't there -- I just try not to think of it," Miranda Wagner, the mother of Samara, 9, and her 10-year-old sister, Krymzen, said in an interview with CNN affiliate CTV.
"I just want to give him a big hug and tell him he's my hero. If he wasn't there I wouldn't have my girls," Wagner said. "Doctors said two more minutes and Samara would have been gone."

I enjoyed the sunshine & the blue skies today.. The temps were beautiful. My world was calm. I avoided most news channels today.. I was even nice to everyone today. My son was happy about that. ;D My across the road neighbor walked across our road and took my next door neighbor's trashcans in, just because. My nephew found his cell phone. He was happiest!
