After weeks of hurling threats at the United States and its allies, North Korea announced Tuesday it will restart a nuclear reactor it had shut more than five years ago.
The declaration demonstrates Kim Jong Un's commitment to the country's nuclear weapons program that the international community has tried without success to persuade it to abandon.
The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the reclusive state's atomic energy department intends to "readjust and restart all the nuclear facilities" at its main nuclear complex, in Yongbyon.
Those facilities include a uranium enrichment facility and a reactor that was "mothballed and disabled" under an agreement reached in October 2007 during talks among North Korea, the United States and four other nations, KCNA said.

If Mr. Kim had any intention of doing anything more than sabre-rattling, the state-run news wouldn't be announcing to the world that N. Korea is doing anything at all with their nuke program. They would just do it - quietly and, hopefully, secretly.
Imagine if the Allies announced on the news in February, "A massive invasion force is due to hit the beaches of Normandy on June 6th, 1944." Yeah, the Allies would have lost the war in Europe.
Mr. Kim is up to something. I don't think the man is stupid; he knows full well that win, lose, or draw, North Korea will come out of a war with the US as a pile of rubble. Mr. Kim wants something other than war. Otherwise, the state-run news wouldn't be announcing his plans.

Adopt Hitler looked cute, Mr Kim has a funny hair cut, Adolf had a funny Charlie Chaplin moustache. But Adolf proved to be has mad as a hatter, no one can take on the world and win. Little chubby Mr Kim is five cents short of a dollar, like Adolf was five cents short of the Mark. North Korea is heading for oblivion, but what damage can the fools do before that happens, personally the trouble will be too close to China, I don't think they will allow North Korea to start a nuclear war.
