We just recieved these letters in the mail.
my hubby's work insurance sent us three different letters. The first one wants a copy of our marriage certificate to prove that we are married and I am his legal dependant. The other two want copies of the children's birth certificates to prove that were born to us and they are our legal dependents. They also want the top portion of the most recent w-2 form to prove that he claimed us all as dependants.
So we call the insurance to find out why they now need this information.
The answer, they have to have on file that we are his legal dependants. The new Obamacare that was enacted requires it to be so. this is not demanded by the company or our insurance, but a regulation in Obamacare.
Now my husband being a republican stated this. (which made me and the person on the other end laugh) Really, OBAMACARE MAKING IT more DIFFICULT TO GET your INSURANCE BENEFITS? He's supposed to be our savior.

We had to do the same thing for hubby's insurance last month. We were told it was because they have to verify dependents & spouses for new regulations. I don't see it as a big deal really. I had to provide the same things for kiddo's Hope grant & other school grants.
If you want really ridiculous...when we moved to Georgia from Texas and I was registering kiddo for school, I had to take kiddo's shot records (he was current but all shots were received in Texas) to the Georgia Dept of Health for verification. They literally made a copy of the shot record & put a Georgia seal/stamp on it. And charged me $50. To make a copy. And then suddenly, his shot record was "acceptable".

I can agree that the immunization record and having to pay $50 is ridiculous. Asking for one is not. For some reason they like to know that your child has been vaccinated. I don't believe there was a school, including the colleges, that my children attended that didn't want proof of immunizations. No problem I just go to their doctor and ask for a copy. I even asked my workplace today about the new regulations. They said it was due to the new healthcare plan the government put through. So it IS indeed due to "Obamacare". I don't find that term insulting as in the presidential debates this past year, President Obama said that he rather liked the term.

I had proof, it wasn't on Georgia paper. Having proof wasn't an issue. I had a copy of his shot records that was handed to me by our Texas pediatrician. It just needed to be on a $50 piece of Georgia paper.
I still don't see a problem with proving proof that you're married & of your dependents. It's no different than the proof I had to provide to the great Red Georgia state for kiddo to receive his college grants. Had to prove that what we had said in the paperwork was true. We were married & he is our only dependent. That also included them wanting a copy of our taxes for further proof. If it cuts down on fraud, then how is that a bad thing?

I don't have a problem with providing proof. I mean I had all the records, and it just involved me photo copying them and sending them out.
BUT I do have a problem with the fact that needed this in order to keep your health benefits. Obamacare was supposed to give healthcare to everyone. Nowhere was it stated that you had to prove you were married or that the children were yours. All of a sudden though, things are coming out.
It is like I stated years ago. This Obamacare isn't going to be as great as everyone said it was going to be. When our own politicians say they will not take Obamacare, we have a problem. Did you know that the government is not supposed to enact any law that they aren't willing to follow themselves? They are UNWILLING to take the healthcare program they put through. That says a lot.
I always said there is too much crap in that document. Our government didn't even know what they put through. What type of healthcare coverage is it when people need to PROVE they are married or born to the parents you are living with in order to keep your benefits? That's bullshit.
I'm sorry, but it's just another way to keep people from getting coverage. What if you couldn't find your marriage license or your children's birth records. What if you weren't born here and lost your birth certificate? what if you weren't married here? What if you are a citizen now but weren't born one?
Obamacare was supposed to provide healthcare to EVERYONE. Why should it matter if you are married or a dependent? It shouldn't.
It just proves my assumptions correct. Obamacare is not the plan everyone thought it was. It will not provide healthcare to everyone, and you will have to fight to get your coverage.
