I wish I could find it again, because I'd copy the commentary word for word.
In the local paper, this person wrote in to the paper. She was complaining about President Obama in how he has been trying to get rid of religion since the time he took office. (she stated the first amendment and the right to practice religion and she stated cases where Obama has lost in court on this issue)
But for now I guess it is just an opinion. But I was wondering if anyone else sees this President as doing the same thing . . trying to sush religion and get rid of it all together unless it is during the one hour a week people attend mass. In other words, prayer should only happen in church. The mention of God's name should only be in church, Religion in general or any form of should only be in church.
She stated Obama has lost the cases because it is in our constitution. . . . freedom of religion.

The more I read about your President Obama makes realise he is my kind of guy. (guy, I just slipped that bit of Americanism there) but a bloke that wants to quieten down religion is for me. Religion is for churches not politics. That Arab are ruled by their Ayatollahs and Islamic religion and just look at the mess they are in. ;D

Religion shouldn't be in politics IMO. Laws shouldn't be influenced by religious groups.

Whether anyone likes it or not, Fuzzems is correct, our laws were based on religion.

I should say the founders of our country based the constitution and laws on religion. I will not speak for any revisions done after that.

I suppose it depends on which Founding Fathers you're talking about. Benjamin Franklin was a Satanist and member of the Hell-Fire Club; Jefferson was a very attenuated Deist whose views may well have in reality been atheist; Hamilton didn't want religion to play any part in framing the laws; Madison and Jay weren't keen on it either.
I also think that (speaking as an outsider) the First Amendment means that the government should neither favour nor discourage any particular religious belief. It doesn't mean IMO that atheists campaigning to suppress religion are right; they are NOT respecting the freedom of others either freedom of thought or freedom of expression.
But the religious right in the US is a huge danger; they definitely DO want to impose their views on the majority of Americans who do NOT support them in the same way that Muslim fundamentalists do or Jewish fundamentalists in Israel and even, believe it or not, in Britain.
