Chemicals used in plastic food wraps and containers could be contributing to childhood diabetes and obesity, two new studies claim.
One study links phthalates to increased insulin resistance in children, while another associates bisphenol A (BPA) with high body-mass index (BMI) and expanding waistlines. Both studies appear online Aug. 19 and in the September print issue of Pediatrics.
"There is increasing concern that environmental chemicals might be independent contributors to childhood diseases related to the obesity epidemic," said phthalates study author Dr. Leonardo Trasande, an associate professor of pediatrics and environmental medicine at the NYU School of Medicine. "Our research adds to these growing concerns."

I've been saying for years that all these chemicals in plastics and other products can't be good for us.

All these chemicals....................tiz all chemicals, to be sure........evrythings made of chemicals, when u look at it that way..................... Do they cause obesity?.................it seems that most fatties blame their metabolism, or their husbands or wives, or the chemicals in the plastic box that the big portion of chips came in, but I once heard the quip that there were no fat people in Belsen, which is an unfortunate reference, but does put the responsibility for being fat where it belongs- with the fatty-you eat it- you wear it! Now I come to think of it, I could do with a bit less of me, before it becomes needing to be a LOT less...................I'd rather be hungry than carry weight, fo' sure............

I just want to say to them, 'Yeah, I am sure it has NOTHING to do with the Taco Bell and other fast food you are devouring on a regular basis!' lol

Plastics in all its forms is unhealthy. Mentioning again as in Sunshines post many have become infertile to Bisphenol A,the compound from plastics which is apparently linked to many other health issues.
It is also understandable the rise in obesity when 'cheap' fairly affordable ready made foods,is so easily available which contains those fattening factors. Obesity which was 'once unheard of in children' is now common.
