Nine people in my family, so it was pretty wild at the holidays. One big long table with lots of good food. I remember not being fond of mincemeat pie that I believe Dad made. I recall going to midnight Mass when I was able to stay awake, and I loved the singing and comraderie there at church. Material things like presents were not important to us. We were not rich nor poor, and I had a good life. You don’t miss what you don’t know, right? My parents were the BEST! I felt very lucky in that respect. Your turn, fritz.

The few presents we got that were under the tree ahead of time: we opened and then rewrapped them when Mom and Dad were at work. We had to act surprised every year!

I remember my Mom and Dad sipping on Peppermint Schnapps one year while they were in the kitchen getting all of the food ready. They may have missed dinner that year.

except for being a few years later than the story, i totally identify with the department store scene in "A Christmas Story". Stotter's (Chester, PA) was magical, just like in that movie.

I think that was filmed using the same store windows I looked at when I was a little kid. Indianapolis. I didn't get a BB gun, lol.

We watched ‘A Christmas Story’ with our kids just about every year, but I just can’t watch it anymore. I never got into the Jimmy Stewart one, can’t recall the name. I have tried watching it several times, but just can’t get into it. I never got into the Scrooge movie either, the old one. I really don’t have a favorite Christmas movie as far as the classics go.

I have two favorite ones . . . "White Christmas" and "Miracle on 34th Street". The Miracle one has to be the original, older one. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it playing on any channel this year but they sure played the newer version enough. I just do not like that one. So, I got to watch White Christmas two or three times. I don't know why but the ending, when the raise the backdrop and it's snowing, always makes me tear up! WTH? lol

Our Christmas traditions varied. We used to go to a great-aunts who had the traditional Polish Christmas spread. Tables and tables of food.
Then we just went to the grandparents houses. Then they came to ours. I think GAs just got too big with her direct family.
There were not tons of presents but my parents tried to make it fair.
