How should it be decided? Your thoughts.

"Women and children first!" as the saying goes.
And by that I mean the youngest amongst us should be saved first, then women of child-bearing years, once all the 20-somethings (or younger) have been tended to. THEN if there are any left over, the men of the same ages as the "women of child-bearing years", then, if there are still some left over, lastly... us old folks, in a "best odds of survival" order.

Let those with the money buy all they want. By ventilators, do you mean the face masks? Who would even bother wearing one?

I would definitely give mine up to a younger person. I’ve had a good 61 years and I would want someone younger to be able to have that same benefit. That being said, I would hope that younger person would be the type who lives their life in a good way though...is kind to others, no addiction issues, appreciates the things they have, cherishes each and every day, etc. *I am not saying that someone with addiction issues shouldn’t be allowed a ventilator, but quite a few live day to day not caring if they live or die anyways.

Next could be the old fogies who are good at roller skating. Thirdly, could be the old geezers who get their curtains made and up on a timely basis.

“I'm An ER Doctor In NYC. Trump's Coronavirus Plan Isn't Just Dangerous, It's Deadly.”
HuffPost Rachel Sobolev March 25, 2020
“In the next couple of days or weeks, we will run out of hospital beds and ventilators. The number of critically ill COVID-19 patients who come to my hospital seems to double every day. If things continue this way, I will soon be forced to make decisions about who deserves a shot at life and who I will allow to die, and that is an unthinkable thing to have to consider, much less do.
Tell me ― when there is only one ventilator available, should it go to the young nurse or the elderly woman with multiple comorbidities who has an advanced directive that says “do not intubate/do not resuscitate”? How about the single mother of three? Or the deeply respected emergency medicine attending doctor I worked with last week? How about the middle-aged man with some medical comorbidities and corny jokes who reminds me of my father ― or is my father? Or maybe the person in prison for rape? How about the person of color in jail for marijuana possession? How about a beloved and wealthy celebrity? How about the homeless person with alcohol use disorder who spits on my fellow medical professionals and me when we try to help? How about the homeless person who lives on my street corner and smiles at me every day and says “God bless you”? It’s not so easy choose, is it?”

I mean, i would hope it doesn't come to that but the REALITY is that healthcare is rationed to some extent regardless of what type of system you have.

I am so tired of the media (and fritz the cat) making me feel so old and unworthy. I am not ready to kick it yet!! That said, I would give my ventilator up to someone younger too if it came down to it. I would expect the least they could do would be to hook up a nice expensive bottle of wine to my last IV line anyways.

‘Grab life by the balls and enjoy it while you can.‘
As a matter of fact, I had oatmeal raisin balls in my hands just the other day! I enjoyed making cookies too!
