Do you have a physical disability?
Anything will work here. Hearing disability, wheelchair bound, perhaps you have had an injury and stuck wearing a brace or something for the rest of your life.
Perhaps you consider a heart condition a physical disability, or perhaps diabetes.
Another place where one can discuss all these things.
Although I really don't like the term disability. I look at it as you're only as disabled as you allow yourself to be. (I don't know how to explain that.)

As you all know, I am hearing impaired which is corrected by wearing hearing aids. The thing with this condition is being accepted by the normal hearing society. I miss out of a lot of conversations because I don't hear correctly but I am the way I am & if you don't like me because of it, the problem is in your mind, not mine.
I am limited as far as going to movies & concerts but usually I get good seats for concerts. The part that aggravates me is that hearing aids & batteries cost an arm & a leg.

Beags: I don't consider myself as disabled at all. I can do almost anything accept play in the rain, swim & wakeboard. I can golf, walk & most of all I can read lips when people talk about me but don't realize that I can understand every word that they are saying!!!

That's exactly what I meant when I said you're only as disabled as you allow yourself to be.
My daughter has a friend who was born deaf. I mean she is completely hearing impaired. Hearing aids do not help, and no new techonology has been invented yet that will work for her. So she has learned to read lips, and my daughter and her other friends have learned some sign language. We write things down for a lot. She is very good about teaching us sign language. It's difficult to communicate with her. We all seem to work it out just fine. We set the tv set to close captioning when she is around . . .and we rent movies rather than watching them on Netflix. Most of your movie rentals have close captioning . . but netflix does not yet. (by that I mean the instant movies you can stream to your tv set through the internet.)

Hawkeye, I have a friend who is profoundly deaf, so is her husband and all her children. I have no trouble communicating with them. They have no problems understanding me. Just so long as I look at them when I'm talking to them. I do know a couple of signs and use them whenever I can.

I am a big lip reader!!! I don't know a lot of sign language but I have a book that shows how to do a lot of the signs!! Now that more & more of the baby boomers are losing their hearing, the more advancements the hearing aid industry is making for people like me.

Hawk, my son golfed with a blind man. I kid you not. The man had someone with him who let him know how many yards out his ball was, to the right or left, etc. and he played a complete round. I was so glad my son got to be a part of that experience...it really helps you empathize with others.

I have no disability myself but my 7 year old son has Cerebral Palsy and can't walk. He's a happy kid, which is the important thing, but of course he is coming to the age where he has many questions and many "why's". He has a twin brother who does not have a disability so this makes it even harder on him.

I had a bad bout with Lyme's disease that resulted in a Chronic Fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia. I was absolutely knocked flat on my back in a bad way. And, i disagree that it is just all in one's head. I was able to function enough to maintain my job and that is about it. I had to let everything else slide just to get by. I literally got up and went to work and came home and went back to bed and could do little else for quite awhile. Over time this eased up and in the last few years i have been fortunate to regain alot of the the energy and strength though i ain't what i used to be. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate that this did not ruin my life or cause me to spiral down the drain. Had i not had family support and a decent financial situation, i could easily have wound up living under a bridge. I can see how such things overtake and ruin people's lives.

I always wondered about that as you're told you have the same dna and stuff. So how does something skip one twin and hit the other? I can see where one would question that. (I would elaborate on that, but I don't believe my twin would like her personal experience put on the boards.)

Gaga---I sympathise with you 100% my daughter also suffers with your condition as well-so i DO know what you are talking about, she used to be such a lively outgoing type of girl, but as you well know--not now its taken hold, and unless you talk to a person that knows about it they assume that its an excuse to lay in bed when it gets really bad--so i do know what you are talking about--my heart goes out to you------as you most probably know people come up with all sorts of relief from the pain etc Dark chocolate comes to mind as one of them---her partner has come up with some sort of thing (my brain has forgotten) she says hopefully it appears to have helped her pain--we thats the wife and i can see it appears to be helping her--but as you know with this what works for one--not necessary for another--if you like i can find out for you to pursue & see if it will give you any relief

Then I'll be making a right or left turn all the time. I might be able to qualify for Nascar.
