Yeah Thanks again Sunshine....This lot are incorrigible I think you might have your hands full.. lol
We had to leave and very suddenly.... although it was on the cards and has been for a while....unfortunately... Your offer off an escape route came not a moment too soon.
My last act as mod...move those in the firing line to a place of safety.
I haven't taken sides...I never take sides... Although...I have to explain my actions later and I'm not looking forward to it.
This God thread has been rumbling on for years...its a bit over my head tbh Its bigger than any forum... and will rise again wherever the posters find themselves. Posters come and go but the themes remain the same.

I know, Tosh. Welcome to this fine links course. Let us try the practice green before attempting the awesome par fives, shall we? You have to make sure you don't have too many clubs in your bag -against the rules. And remember, courtesy even when you four-putt or your opponent scores an eagle.
I suspect you will have very strong playing partners here -scratch golfers. I hope the nineteenth is a place of camaraderie, refreshment and pleasant memories of a good game. Best wishes.

Hello cvor. I most certainly didn't imply anything insulting; I have a fine respect for intelligence. PoD used much of your material to express his own views: ergo 'tutor'.
Facts, per se, are never off, cvor. My recollection may be off. I wasn't talking about posters who called PoD names -but in any event I was using hyperbole to make a point which isn't worth arguing about. I would be supremely indifferent to your naming names. Please don't.
My immediate thought is that you are asking me to accept a dubious axiom and build a conclusion on it. My second thought is that the question resembles the lawyer's asking "Have you stopped beating your wife?" I suspect that in major areas we shall agree; in matters relating to what you say below, we may have some interesting discussion.
Of course this is useful scientific method. However, one must remember that as soon as your antagonist coins a definition, you are picking holes in that definition rather than dismissing God. Definition means imposing limits on something; the traditional concept of God is one who has no limitations.
There is a further problem, when we come to debate. We do not have at our fingertips every piece of science that might be brought for or against a proposition; you may be master of your own field, but it is small compared to the vast acreage that science occupies.
The place where fighting will be fiercest, I suspect, is in the area of ignorance. It is common for atheist to claim knowledge of A in order to refute B. This is not science, of course.
Given all these provisos, I look forward to a good debate. I send my best wishes.

Good morning all It's lovely to see that the lifeboat made safely to shore. Thanks Sunshine and Spellbound for making it such a welcoming arrival. Hello cvor I don't think we've met before. I guess I fit it the Agnostic box, though tempted towards the Gnostic, too. Maybe roygrip is one too? Certainly N0bama from the MSN thread was much more knowledgeable on the Gnostic side of the argument than I am. As an avid reader of New Scientist, however, I am also looking along the quantum electro-biology side of research for anything that explains consciousness and creativity. So, evidence is what I am looking for, but I include testimony of direct experience as related by others, as valid evidence. I see you have specific rules about posting personal photographs. I guess that manages PoD's inclinations very well - and his more lucid offerings were a valuable contribution to our MSN discussions. We come in peace Hey - I love the smilies!

Hey Thought! Yes I think I fall into that category or lean. But again, my "evidence" is only my own personal experience, which of course does not stand up in a courtroom. We all follow a path, and where it leads? Guess we'll figure it out when the lights grow dim. So I have un defineable faith, and I'm OK with that. In my crazy life I've seen tough guys melt and find a higher power, and their lives by their own admission has become grand. God? I like to believe so, proof, hmmmm? All I know is what works for me. Peace Some would ask, does it hurt me, my belief? On the contray, it saved my life from the path I was on.

Afternoon all, Cvor, after years of posters confusing thee for me, and me for thee, we finally end up in the same place at the same time, I am not sure if it is gravity or destiny. A quick rundown of our motley crew is in order: The vast majority believe the existence of the Abrahamic God is highly unlikely, the exceptions being Starlight and Kalitay. The vast majority are agnostic ( in the philosophical sense) towards various but not all supernatural phenomena and metaphysical claims, such as creator, design, ghosts and afterlife. ....and there is me, hard atheist, naturalist, realist and rationalist. Enjoy the debates. ;D

It's a shame that sometimes personal experiences are quite easily dismissed because they are only personal without anyone else testifying to them.
I also believe we may be acquainted with POD soon on this thread. Just call it my sixth sense. It never fails me.
Have a nice day everyone.
P.S. Out of curiosity, why are some members called 'God'?

Hi Sunshine,
Could you start a 'Science and Technology' forum? If you do, I'll happily contribute to it. I'm happily navigating my way around your board. One question though - how do I view this board (as a guest) without first logging in; or is logging in a prerequisite to viewing this board?
Go well.

The more you post, the more your rankings go up and the more stars you earn. Not that there's a prize at the end but . . .

Exactly Starlight, in the exchanges with say an atheist, we automatically are dismissed because our evidence is personal. I believe in my heart, I "know" but that is not the hard evidence allowed in a courtroom, thus dismissed by the naysayer as feeling. A case of "you had to of been there"
