What's really going on with wages in America

   Where in the world do they get these figures? We don't come anywhere near this!

When taking a look at production and non-supervisory workers, who don't manage other people, earnings have been functionally flat for the past two years.

This data set divides their earnings by the hour rather than the week and found that wages for this group have only risen 7 cents since May 2016, to an average of $22.59 per hour.

By comparison, earnings for all workers, including managers, have grown by 16 cents, to an average of $26.92 an hour.

It's an average.  People at the top of their field get paid the top wage.  Pushes the average up.

My two cents:
The minimum wage in our area has increased to between $10 and $11.50 per hour.
Apparently these raises were promoted in order to help get people off of government assistance.
Many employees thought this was great until they looked at the increase in the taxes coming out of their checks. Some saw no benefit at all, as small businesses raised their prices to compensate for the increase.
For those who were receiving government assistance, they found that they no longer qualified. So, they requested that their hours be cut. They were then working less hours, for more money and still receiving benefits.
With so many opting out of working, businesses were finding it extremely hard to fill positions.
There is only a limited amount of potential employees in some of our small towns.
Many small businesses, unable to handle the increased overhead started closing their doors or leaving the state. Good old California...Not.
Promoters of increased MW assumed, incorrectly, that these businesses would just eat the increase.
That did not happen.
Those businesses that are hanging in there have turned to automation, laid off employees or raised their prices, stretching the budgets of those on fixed incomes.... These people are now turning to the government for help.

So, tell me....How is raising the MW benefiting anyone other than the taxman?
