Speaking recently at the 125th annual convention of the American Psychological Association, Julianne Holt-Lunstad, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Brigham Young University, wisely focused on the toll that loneliness is taking on Americans.
Dr. Holt-Lunstad presented findings culled from two massive 2010 analyses of data from hundreds of studies involving millions of individuals. Among the data: Social isolation, loneliness or living alone was each a significant factor contributing to premature death. And each one of these factors was a more significant risk factor for dying than obesity.
Think about that: Loneliness now eclipses obesity as a cause of premature death in America. The AARP estimates that 42.6 million Americans over the age of 45 are suffering from loneliness, with nearly one quarter of the population living alone, marriage rates declining and the number of children per family dropping.

I guess we all should've had more kids or should get married again! I like having two kids and one marriage. I will be married one time in this lifetime, not that I don't enjoy being married, I just don't feel it necessary to do it again. I am very independent and feel like I could do just fine on my own. Companionship maybe, marriage...NO! I think men feel the need to get married again in their older years if they are on their own...they need someone to take care of them. JMO

I totally agree, @mox! I'm never doing it again. Companionship maybe, marriage or living with the opposite sex, not gonna happen again! I have found I'm far too independent for my own good I guess and most men, in this geographical area anyway, can't deal with an independent woman.
Perhaps I should move? Nah, been there, done that. I'll stay put and enjoy my life as it is.

I would get a big fluffy dog to cuddle with! That is all I would need. Well, besides grandkids.

Then again, maybe a small non-shedding fluffy dog.

I would think most men would LOVE an independent woman...one that isn't clingy and has to rely on them for anything/everything. We should poll the men in a separate thread here. I'd be curious to know their thoughts on that.

And in my particular area of the world, men want to be more macho, even if they're not! lol
Are there men on this board other than fritz?

I want to go to a rescue shelter and see which one looks at me in that 'special' way. Then I will grab it (hopefully HER) and go! I am worried they will ALL tug at my heartstrings though and I may end of with a houseful of lil pooches. I really would LOVE to foster some older kids too, but hubby has no interest after raising our own. DANG IT!

Yes. I mentioned on another board I do a lot of Brad Pitt body double work. It can be quite embarrassing being mistake for him in public, but it's a cross I have to bear.

Sorry about the likes and dislikes. I'd forgotten what all the 'icon's' meant and can't delete them. DOH.
