Not sure i want laws about "control". That is pretty vague. And, i want to be able to "control" my children though i am sure my kids aren't too thrilled about my control over for them. My teen son isn't too thrilled with my "bullying" behavior of taking away his phone and xbox for bad behavior.

I was going to say that the greater percentage probably involves men being more abusive towards women. But, I realize that the statistic may be inflated because more women come forward to report abusive men than men come forward to report being abused by women.
I think all laws should be non-discriminatory. But I applaud the effort to have the law include non-violent or emotional / verbal abuse. Mental abuse is just as destructive as physical.

Bullying laws can be used to Bully people. If someone doesn't like what you say or disagrees with your or whatever, all they have to do is shout "Bully". It is absurd.

It's no different than sexual abuse laws in the workplace. I don't think it's absurd at all. In the end, proof must be given in some form.

I think that we need laws and that we need to carefully define what the laws are. It is much easier to define sexual harrassment than bullying. We are doing a disservice to our children by constantly telling them that they need to run and cry "bully" versus teaching them to be resilient, to understand that people disagree, might not like the same things or whatever. And, you have to teach your kids that sometimes people are rude and ignorant and how to deal with that. One of our neighbors was bullied at school, but he also has a lot of emotional problems and views everything as a slight to him even if it isn't or isn't meant to be. He would be much better off if they teach him how to deal with this and stand up for himself and accept who he is versus worrying about changing other people around him. I found that with my daughter, i was indulging her in the pity party way too much and had to teach her to "toughen up" Now, having said that, we absolutely should try to protect people. We should have codes of conduct on how people act and behave. And, we should punish those who break the rules.

Yes. Anyone can make accusations. This should be backed up with some evidence. But, having your teen say "that's so gay" or whatever they are all saying doesn't make your teen a "homophobe" or whatever either. They really go overboard with some of this stuff.

Yeah, i guess i have seen it both ways. I have seen kids being bullied. And, i have also seen people being accused of being bullies who clearly were not on some trumped up BS. And, i think labeling a kid as a "bully" without clear evidence and proof is damaging to a child as well and they should be careful about going about with that type of name calling as well.

If we see these figures again -
Seven per cent of women and five per cent of men said they had experienced abuse.
A 2% difference yet the law is willing to 'prosecute' men and not women for 'control' of their partners?
How absurd is that. Why collect stats and figures and keep records when common sense isn't applied later on in law-making?

Just a thought : The way that the feral kids go out and about on the streets these days i didn`t think that either parents lay ed down any laws, i was under the impression it was have them, then after a few years shove em out on the streets to annoy all and sundry---so much so that fella who committed suicide after years of abuse from kids. Surely some ground rules have to apply-otherwise they will not know right from wrong (kids that is ) Its Nick Clegg trying to establish his authority since his big defeat over the European fiasco---dont get me wrong i agree wholeheartedly over the abuse of spouses MALE & FEMALE. The Nanny state is alive and well.

I do think we need to seriously address the abuse of women and children in this country. We need to put an end to this violence that is being perpetrated. I can't stand to watch Nancy Grace because it is a never ending parade of bodies of women and children. There has to a way to stop this. And, getting bogged down because someone calls someone else a Poo Poo Head isn't the way to go. We need to focus on enacting laws for women who leave abusive men and stricter laws for pedophiles and the like.

Make you right Starlight What do you mean here, pod? Gender equality was what I was aiming for and that too when the difference isn't much in the cases of abuse. I can see how such a prosecution can be misused by people.

There isn't gender equality in many Muslim families Star It annoys me actually....We had womens suffrage at the beginning of the last century..... but its still a mans world. When I see women getting treated as less than they should be... I get very cross.
Bullying is wrong...be it female or male and I'm happy to support legislation to protect against both.
