See, you know i am right. you don't come up with a solution without a concurrent problem.

Actually, my roommate sometimes comes up with solutions to things that aren't problems. In fact, that little foible of hers can be somewhat overbearing on days when my patience is low.
Roommate: "Instead of over-filling the ice trays, why don't you stop using so much water out of the faucet? That's how you fix that problem."
Me: "Ummm ... I like bigger ice cubes which is why I use more water out of the faucet."
Roommate: "Oh."

Hi Daphne. Hope this week is better for you. I've been in my own slump. Focusing on other projects, work, building a new guitar. 27th will be 11 years sober for me, happens every new year, I get reflective. I'm around just not as much.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

Hi Roy! I'm doing better so far ... but sometimes I feel like I am right on the edge.
I am trying to keep my anxiety down and relax a little bit today.

You know in my early sobriety I struggled, sometimes a few minutes at a time. I still have anxiety, but nowadays, I know whatever the emotion, it will go away, and I no longer have the need to self medicate. Hang in there ;D

The concept of being clean is not restricted to 'not using.' Being clean is a state of mind. It is a conscious choice. It is about keeping our spirits clean as well as not doing drugs in one form or another. When we have these two things in place, the rest follows. We can undertake being clean in order to explore our new lives fully. Cleansing our bodies, environments, habit patterns, and removing what is not a part of us, allows us to see that what remains is often better than we expected. Being clean is becoming new again. Clean is removing the accumulated dirt that is a natural part of life. One difficulty we face is that a relapse can undermine our willingness to the point that the fear of going all the way to the bottom again can make staying clean seem to be difficult or impossible. We keep returning to the power of surrender that we found in our initial recovery and we get results. If we find it hard to turn to that power, we talk about it at meetings and with supporters of our recovery. One sure sign of eventual relapse is being critical and uncharitable of others who are hurting. Our identification with other members insures that our real unkindness is directed at fears within our own being.

Roy - I was curious. I have had some issues in my life with depression. Did you know Winston Churchill referred to his depression as his "black dog"? And, is that the reason for the your avatar or a coincidence?

Roy's avatar is the same one Mad Dawg used. It's in honor of Mad Dawg.

"We are Spiritual Beings having a Human Experience"
My sponsor (David D) said this one day and I had a "moment of clarity". After giving this statement some thought, I've had many more "moments of clarity". I know that when I honor my Being, by surrendering my life to my Higher Power (whom I choose to call GOD), the possibilities are endless. I know longer live for my own agenda because I've given my life over to the care of God as I understand Him. When God is directing my life, I see little "miracles" happen all the time and life becomes a beautiful thing. When I was drinking/drugging, and my will, my desires, my best thinking were in control, everything got out of control and turned to hopelessness, chaos, self pity, and utter sadness. I'm learning that life is about the Journey (the getting there), not about the destination). I'm learning to live in the Present. and experiencing Real Relationships, and Real Joy. I've also come to believe and recognize that I suffer from the disease of alcoholism/addiction, and the main characteristic of this disease is selfishness. I see this word continuously in my quest for sobriety. That being said, I read this the other day and would like to share it with you
Meditation for the Day
"I will learn to overcome myself, because every blow to selfishness is used to shape the real, eternal, spirit I AM. As I overcome myself, I gain that power which God releases in my Soul. And I too will be victorious. It is not the difficulties of life that I have to conquer, so much as my own selfishness."

As FS says it's Dawg's old avatar. He was a good guy and an old friernd from here on the boards. I cared very much for him, and had a lot of love for him. I related better than some to his struggles, and we were buds. It's in honor of our friendship.
I do know the reference to "Black Dog" (even Led Zepplin uses it)
"Dexter" (from my favorite series) uses his "dark passenger" which is a play on that.

Rest in Peace JoePa. I believe he was a good man who truly spent his life trying to do the right things.
