It's great seeing your pictures again, Peg!
I don't think that the recommendation from the board about free contraceptives will pass the Republican House, I'm sad to say. I think women are under attack all over the country and not always by Republicans. These changes to Medicare and Social Security are going to hurt women more than men.

sus- -Did you ever read Margaret Awood's The Handmaid's Tale or see the movie? It's about the future where America has become a Totalitarian theocracy and women have lost all their rights. It has since been made into a movie, a play and an opera. I remember when first I heard about the book, I thought that can never happen. Now I'm not so sure.

Peg, I saw bits and pieces of the movie but I just found it too disturbing.
I actually came back here to comment on this issue. I was just reading about it on HuffPo. The article did not make it clear whether or not the Department of Heath and Human Services can can make the change on an administrative basis or whether it's an amendment that would have to go through Congress and the Senate. It will be interesting to see if Obama will take the heat for making the administrative change if it can be done that way. Groups like The Family Research Council are already objecting, of course.

You know it is really amazing after all these years of birth control that they are groups who would oppose this, except for the Caholic Church, which has ruled against artificial measures from the beginning. I don't know why there should be any objection. You're not forcing anyone to use a specific birth control measure. All would be covered. And we've had 50 years of the pill. Lord! the religious right really annoys me. What right do they have to dictate what the rest of us should do with our lives? It's none of their business. And they are always so self-righteous. NO. I will not discuss the feelings I have about organized religions. Everyone has the right to believe as they will.

In my honest opinion anyone who takes advice on birth controll from an 84 year old virgin, is gonna end up with more problems than they can handle.

who, they either want warriors for their war against Satan or they want to keep women "in their place" or both. Whichever it is, there's a war against women going on the likes of which I've never seen in my adult life.
Can you believe that the Republicans once had the right to get an abortion as one of their political goals? I bellieve in God and I'm a member of an organized church but these religious nuts need to stop trying to control everyone else's life.

Peg, those accidents are terrible! It's given me second thoughts about going on trips on buses. It never bothered me before because I thought that the drivers were professional and that the companies were actually careful about who they hired. We've had several bus accidents here, too, in the past year. In one of them the driver was very drunk.
I've read that some immigration judges are delaying deportation orders for aliens married to Americans by five years under the assumption that DOMA will be repealed.

sus--I just hoping that they are through for the time being. But I don't think I could ever recommend someone taking a tour bus!! There's been too many accidents in the past year. And not from just one company or country! This last one on the thruway was a tour from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
BTW S Fl Mom has been posting on Satori on Lifestyles. I wish I could answer her but I can't.

OMG- -What IS going on in Norway? A man in a police uniform opened fire at a Labour Party youth camp on an island outside Oslo. Investigators suspect a link between this and the car bomb blasst. Several people, up to 20, have been reported died, on the island of Utoya, but not confirmed. Police have arrest a person in connection to the shooting. Disturbing scenes on Norwegian TV, show several youths swimming for their lives in the sea. An eyewitness has said he saw more than 20 bodies at the Utoya camp. It's been confirmed that 7 died in the bomb blast with at least 10 admitted to Oslo University Hospital. NATO member Norway hss been threatened in the past by al-Qaida for involvement in Afghanistan. It had also taken part in the NATO bombing of Libya, where Gadhafi has threatened to strike back in Europe. But political violence in Norway is practiclly unknown. "There certainly aren't any domestic Norwegian terrorist gropus although ther have been some al-Qaida linked arrests occasionally," David Lea, Western Europe analyst at Control Risks said. "They are in Afghanistand and were involved in Libya, but it's far too soon to draw any conclusions." Except there were certainly some people unhappy about something.

That's terrible! I haven't had any news channels on all day so I wasn't aware of this. Those poor kids. The Norwegians that I've met have been the nicest people imaginable. It breaks my heart that this has happened to them.
